Character Creation Challenge, Day 2 of 31

Yesterday I talked about Cepheus Engine, but today I'm going to turn in another direction and look at Call of Cthulhu, by Chaosium. Exploring the madness and horror of a world based on H.P. Lovecraft's stories, this is not a bright heroic system. In general there's much less randomness involved than Traveller-based character generation. I'm going to roll up a 1920s character using the rules in the free Quickstart rules.

Robin Ferguson

Occupation: Journalist

Skills - Occupation

Art/Craft (Photography): 5 + 50 = 55/27/11
History: 5 + 60 = 65/32/13
Library Use: 20 + 60 = 80/40/16
Own Language: 70 + 40 - 10 = 100/50/20 (N.B. I'm adding 30 rather than the 40 in the guide here, as that will take it to 100%; the remaining 10 will be allocated elsewhere)
Charm: 15 + 70 = 85/42/17
Psychology: 10 + 50 = 60/30/12
Locksmith: 01 + 40 + 10 = 51/25/10 (N.B. taking the extra 10 from Own Language)
Spot Hidden: 25 + 50 = 75/37/15
Credit Rating: 40/20/8

Skills - Personal Interest

Drive Auto: 20 + 20 = 40/20/8
Listen: 20 + 20 = 40/20/8
Sleight of Hand: 10 + 20 = 30/15/6
Stealth: 20 + 20 = 40/20/8

Looking over the skills and the stats, we find that Robin is a freelance investigative journalist, skilful at finding scandals and getting information whether from human sources, or sneaking around if necessary. Not particularly physical, they prefer to use their charm and knowledge of how people think to get their way.
